10 years in the making

I finished my white work blouse on Saturday!

The shirt is McCall's 2608 (now out-of-print) in a lightweight cotton.  I'm not sure what size I made - I sewed it 10 years ago.

The embroidery pattern is from page 27 of this white work book by Dover Crafts.  I free handed it, even though it's generally better to trace it onto your ground fabric.

After an overnight soak in Oxyclean and hanging on the rack, it looks just as white as it did 10 years ago.

shawl & soaker

Finished my Zetor Shawl last week, and blocked it this weekend.

Dyed a soaker for my friend - I love how the colors layered.

finished my Sizzle tank, but I still need Mike to take a picture for me.  The mirror trick is just making my boobs look odd this time.

A parade of finished projects

I haven't been posting much because I've been knitting!

I finally finished the Hedgerow socks, and promptly gave them away to my oldest friend.  I just didn't want to look at them any longer.

Then I knit another pair out of the same yarn (picture on the right), that I made up the pattern for myself.  It's just a feather & fan, nothing fancy.  I have worn these a fair amount, and I would buy this yarn - Arauncania Ranco - again.

I made up an Unoriginal Hat and Holding Hands, Feeding Ducks scarf for my sister, but I forgot to take a picture of the finished hat.

I knit almost a whole Sizzle tank top out of bamboo, but it stretched like mad, and I did a size too big anyway, so I'm about 30 rows away from finishing the back.  Front is already done, this time with short row bust darts.  Keep your fingers crossed that this time it will fit!

After I finished the first go-round of the Sizzle, I started Branching Out in the same bamboo, which will be for my cousin's 4-year-old.  She was fascinated by it at the 4th of July.

I made 3 diaper soakers for my friends who have a 3-week baby girl (he went to Michigan, too, although not at the same time as Mike).

I made a pair of ribbed socks sometime last winter out of worsted-weight Patons wool, lovely to wear instead of slippers.

I finished my Flower Basket Shawl on our honeymoon a few weeks ago

and started another shawl, this one in Berocco's Ultra Alpaca.

woo hoo!

It's been warm enough several times over the past two weeks to knit at the bus stop!  Not that I've been to work since Monday because of this stupid cold...

Finished!

ooh, and I get to try out the built-in cardreader on my new laptop, too!

I finished & blocked this scarf last week and gave it to a good friend.  I started it back in January when she was having trouble with her pregnancy.  There wasn't a thing I could do, but I could make her something, so I did.

This is the first time I've blocked lace; I think it came out pretty well.  I have blocking wires and I pinned the ends.  I think my gauge loosened towards the end, but whatever.

I'm currently working on my second Hedgerow sock in blue Arauncania, 3 rounds to go before I start the heel flap.  The foot is still too big, so I'm going to have to shorten it some.  After I've got the basic sock done, I want to fiddle around and turn these into knee socks, either by knitting ribbing backwards or grafting.  I have no idea if this will work, but how else am I going to learn if I don't experiment?

Baby socks

Or, well, sock. Using the pattern at Rachel's Ramblings: Baby socks

Baby_sock_21808

For my own reference, a chart of shoe sizes and foot lengths on Zappos.  According to that, my sock is about a US size 3.  Although, I'm not sure where exactly to measure the foot length to, since the heel is roundish.  Anyone know?

first socks

As you can see, I have finished my first pair of socks!  I used the Yarn Harlot's basic sock recipe (which was too big for my dainty - ha! - ankles) and Sockotta yarn.  They fit one friend perfectly, so off they go as soon as I get over this bug.

The feather & fan scarf on the right reaches from my fingertip to the other shoulder, maybe about 2/3 as long as I'd like it.  I'm doing this one in Malabrigo laceweight (VAA); it's so warm and light, I just love it.

I cast on another hat this afternoon in the blue Malabrigo worsted-weight; I want to make another layer to go inside the hat I made last month since it's not quite warm enough on really cold days.  I plan to put buttons on the outside of the new layer and loops on the inside of the original.

I also threw together a wee felted purse out of the same blue Malabrigo Friday for my friend's 1-yr-old.  I knit a garter stitch rectangle twice as long as it was wide, seamed the short edges, gathered one long edge, knit a short I-cord handle, then threw it in the washer.  Totally forgot to take a picture, but she just loved it.

Racing through it all

A note on that silk dress from a few posts back - my mom looked at it and marked up some darts, which I still have to sew in.  At least it doesn't look like a silk sack anymore.

Finished:

Coronet hat from knitty in Malabrigo Azul Profundo, slightly felted because I made it too long and was feeling lazy.  Not bad for a first try at cables, although the graft looked pretty horrible before felting (ha!).

I started and ripped the Hedgerow socks (left pic) because, never having knit socks before, I didn't realize this wouldn't work so well in a variegated yarn.  I may try those again with something else, they are rather pretty.  Heh, after looking at the picture, I quite like it now.  Oh well, that's life.

I restarted using the Yarn Harlot's basic sock recipe, although I need to modify it because my ankles are apparently smaller than average.  It works if I fold over the cuff, though.  maybe I'll add some more ribbing so the fold-over will be longer.  I wonder if that will look weird?  I guess I'll find out.

my cardigan!
I've worn this to work already.  :D  Am considering adding an extra row or two to the button band to cover up the gapping, and redoing/tightening the cuffs, but who knows when I'll get to it.  I just love the colors and it's so soft and snuggly (mmm, alpaca).

I've also started a feather & fan lace scarf in green Malabrigo laceweight.  It's about half-done, not bad for 2 weeks worth of bus commutes.  Will post pics once it's given.

It's hard to sew summer clothes when it's fall out!

I've stalled out on my silk v-neck dress; it still doesn't fit quite right, as you can see.  I think I need to undo the bust seams and take up the lower front panel to reduce the volume there.  I've already taken in the side seams.  After I get it fitted properly, I just have to put in the zipper and do the bottom hem.  We'll see when I get to that.

I used knit lining instead of the cheap acryclic - it really makes a difference with such a fitted dress.
